Let's just face it. The contemporary view of one needing a dedicated server
to host files is an obsolete notion. And, as the price of storage space in
the form of hard drives plummets one can also put that space to good use
for a brand new idea on a truly revolutionary way of sharing files.
I've stated that a server is obsolete. The reason why is that a single server
is prone to being in control by its owner. And, depending upon the content
either the owner or users of that server posts, there's more of a chance
of lawsuits and the confiscation of the hardware. The goal of confiscation
for the sake of "evidence" is usually initiated by various political factions
such as the MPAA, RIAA, SPA, Republicans, Democrats, whoever hates Larry
Flynt and other people who simply do not know know a damn thing about how
things work in the digital realm (much less in reality itself).
So, what's a user to do with an inexpensive hard drive chock full of gargantuan
amounts of storage space as well as a speedy Internet network connection?
Simple! That user can donate some or all of that space and bandwidth to a
project called "The
OFF System".
"The
OFF System", aka "The Owner Free File System", is revolutionary is that it's
both an open network that doesn't use data encryption (a brightnet) and allows
for both the archiving and digital distribution of digital data. This is
accomplished through the creation of a distributed file system across thousands
of users' 'net connections and hard drives. The most interesting part of
"The OFF System" is that no one controls what data is in the file system
and that no files are passed from system to system; only anonymous blocks
representing any kind of data are stored and pushed.
Therefore, unlike the popular and reliable
eMule filesharing
software, one doesn't need to physically possess any files containing
popular content in order to participate in "The OFF System". One only needs
to simply install, run the software and choose to dedicate some (or all space)
on their hard drive to help extend and provide extra connectivity to the
file system. Also "The OFF System" client can easily run in the background
using a fixed amount of bandwidth. That way one can easily use the 'net without
the connection grinding to a halt.
Another key difference is that there is no such thing as uploading into this
distributed filesystem. A file is simply converted into a series of digital
blocks of information which may represent any kind of data. In fact some
blocks may represent two or more kinds of digital content. These blocks are
simply dispersed into the filesystem where they remain in perpetuity. Because
of that there is no such thing as file deletion within this file system as
well. This means that "The OFF System" is resistant at all attempts at
censorship.
So, for censorship advocates
(from authoritarian government regimes down to various know-nothing
socio/politico/religio cultists and the average dumbed-down
television-brainwashed masses), therein lies a problem: The only way to ensure
that no controversial content is disseminated would be to ban the system
in its entirety. And that certainly means going after not just the authors
of "The OFF System" client software and anyone who possesses its open source
code but also the thousands of users who contribute bandwidth. Because all
blocks are nothing but meaningless blocks of data there is no real proof
of the average contributing user hosting or disseminating controversial content.
Which leads to this: In the digital realm there are an infinite amount of
ways content can be represented by digits. After all, it's all ones and zeroes.
And while one may have the URL to eventually reconstruct a file from "The
OFF System" the truth is that the blocks which represent that digital file
may wind up coming from thousands of sources. And, depending upon the popularity,
the locations of the blocks certainly isn't static. So they'll wind up migrating
where they need to be for the sake of keeping bandwidth throughout the filesystem
optimum. And since the individual blocks may represent two or more forms
of content no one knows who has what within "The OFF System".
The only way certain blocks has meaning is with the OFF URL. Short and sweet,
it is much easier to pass from user to user via traditional methods of I
of of content preservation and distribution. et communications (E-mail, web
pages, chat, etc.). And, just like with contemporary filesharing software,
one simply installs, runs and sends the URL into "The OFF System" so that
the blocks can be retrieved to reconstruct the original file represented
by the hash-based URL.
My Creator has a hand in restoring old films and other analog recordings
and converting that content into a much more resilient digital format.
Occasionally he even shoots and cuts his own films and offers them into the
world. Some of these films and recordings contain historical information
which remains a part of lost history to the general public
(specifically about
a pro-addiction religious cult masquerading as a spiritual faith-based "solution"
to Alcoholism). 'The OFF system" is invaluable in ensuring both their
preservation and access. While He may wind up losing His Internet access
or not being able to secure multi-terabyte storage on a server somewhere,
"The OFF System" is the next best thing. Right now some films originally
for internal cult usage are being disseminated as this text is being typed.
And, once those blocks are disseminated into the filesystem they will remain
a part of it. Forever.
What does this have to do with fetish in general?
For ALL content producers (including my Creator and myself) there
is simply no way to enforce copyright restrictions in the digital realm.
No one is able to stop, for example, an adult content data "liberator" who
wishes to financially undermine the porno industry from using "The OFF System"
just as much as no one is able to stop either my Creator or myself in
contributing our own films for such digital preservation and distribution.
For my Creator and myself we derive no financial benefit from this hobby.
We just like the attention and the joy this fetish brings to ourselves and
others. ;)
Besides, thanks to "The OFF System" we now have a gigantic global "drive"
dedicated to digital content preservation distribution. If certain destructive
events should occur, such as the shutdown of my webpages, at least the various
digital content we contribute will live on. And access to that content is
as easy as accessing an archived webpage containing various OFF URLs.
In regards to rubberdolls and the history of this specific fetish, such content
added and archived can only serve many in the years to come. From the aspiring
dolly-to-be to the historian, there is much that can be preserved for many
to learn from.
In the end, a fetish is a labor of love. It isn't only the production and
presentation of that fetish to other interested fetishists. It also involves
preservation.
So, what about the OFF URLS for the downloads here?
Be patient. We'll have not just original content available but also links
to free software we like and use which, despite appearing to be obsolete
and unsupported, still lives on.
We'll have links aplenty here soon. And, when that happens, we'll just move
this brief essay to its own subpage.
In the meantime, get to know
"The OFF
System".
Have a glovely latex day! :)
